Chapter 17
Love is a Loser’s Game
Warriors Game, Oracle Arena, San Francisco
Louisa
The girls skipped in front of us from the parking lot of the Oracle Arena. Michael and I walked behind them holding hands.
We had ordered pizza and had the talk with them over dinner. Michael had let me lead the conversation but had held my hand and told the girls how much he loved me and how he looked forward to getting to know them better.
I had expected them to have a list of questions, but they’d munched on their pizzas and just told us cool. Of course, they were used to their dad having Lisa. His girlfriend lived in their house when they were staying with him. So how was this different? Well, first of all, she was younger than I, and they could still have a family of their own. I pushed the negative thoughts aside.
Michael tugged me to his side.
“A penny for your thoughts?” He kissed the top of my hair.
“Well, first of all, Mister, you need to return to San Diego pronto and break up with your girlfriend.” We hadn’t talked about Mel, but I’d demanded he broke it off in person and not over text or phone.
“There will be no hanky-panky before that’s settled,” I scolded.
“Ahhh sweetheart,” he drew out and slapped my butt. I yelped, and he laughed.
“Scouts honor, I won’t try to get in your pants later tonight when the girls are sleeping, and we’re sitting on your couch enjoying the silence.”
I moaned in anticipation, knowing precisely what he would do to me and how I would give in. His hand was firmly planted in the rear pocket of my skinny white jeans. I’d paired the jeans with a ruffled light blue dress shirt and a navy blazer. My preferred designer for casual wear was Tommy Hilfiger, and the entire ensemble was from their collection - even my shoes were white Tommy sneakers. I was low-maintenance that way when I saw something I liked from a collection, I often bought the same items in a range of colors and patterns that would go together.
Michael ruffled my loose hair again and smiled lovingly at me.
“You know I’m leaving tomorrow after work and I’ll arrange to meet her either tomorrow evening or Saturday morning. If it’s too late when I get in tomorrow, she may take it as a booty call,” he smirked at me.
“Hell no. You’re mine, and I’m not sharing.” I knew I sounded possessive.
“Never, babe, I’ll call it off and return to San Francisco as soon as possible.”
The girls were waiting for us at the entrance and we walked in, in search of the VIP section. We had fantastic seats in a closed area where only VIP ticket holders were allowed. It wasn’t our first time to the arena, the girls loved going to the games, but it was the first time we went together with Michael. Just as we had sat down, Hayley tugged at my sleeve.
